FAQ

Answers to some of the most frequently asked questions we get.

what content is available through chpa?

The primary focus of Crucial Hardcore Punk Archive is music. We also welcome music video recordings and recordings of live performances; on top of that we give an option to host photos depicting past shows and zines, both e-zines and scanned versions.

Is it legal to download material off CHPA FTP server?

Crucial Hardcore Punk Archive is dedicated to hosting and distributing ONLY legal materials. Every single file you find on CHPA ftp server is supposed to be hosted with explicit agreement of its owner. We discourage people from uploading music/videos/etc. that raise legal issues.

If you discover that illegal media is available through CHPA you may and should make an official request to remove it from CHPA server. Feel free to contact CHPA staff to negotiate these issues.

We as a band don't really understand why we should give you a permission to make our recordings free of charge to the whole world

If you feel uncomfortable about the idea of letting the whole world download your music for free consider the fact that if you're bad chances that you'll get popular are very slim and you won't make a fortune by trying to make people first pay then listen to your not so good records; if you're bound to become popular kids will get your recordings on-line despite your agreement and most likely awareness of the fact.

This is something some artists (most notable Trent Reznor from Nine Inch Nails, 4lyn and the bands that are part of Crucial Hardcore Punk Archive) have already realised. It's up to you but we firmly believe that by being a part of Crucial Hardcore Punk Archive you place yourself in a win-win situation. Those who really care about you and your work will support you anyway.

You still can and we think should issue CDs/vinyls for others to buy and make money out of it while making these records available through Crucial Hardcore Punk Archive.

Think of being part of Crucial Hardcore Punk Archive like this: you get archived and you also get a promotion. In time people will hear about this project and lovers of hardcore punk will start frequenting the archive and chances that there will be a lot of people downloading your records are very high.

A lot of downloads means more people hearing your records. If you're good you won't be able to avoid popularity and that may lead to people actually buying your stuff.

Think about that. It's a win-win situation. You might get in return more than you give.
